If you are looking for a leadership opportunity and have the skills, experience, and time to commit to guiding an established not-for-profit charity making a genuine difference to the care and protection of Tasmania’s wild places the following opportunity might just be for you!

Wildcare Tasmania is a strong and passionate team of volunteers, donors and staff whose purpose is to support communities and volunteers to contribute to conservation actions that ensure long-term protection of Tasmania’s natural environment. Wildcare offers some of the most genuinely wild volunteering and benefactor opportunities in Tasmania.

Wildcare is seeking nominations for election to fill three Board vacancies.

People attracted by Wildcare’s purpose and who have any of the following skills are encouraged to nominate for election to the Board:

  • Developing organisational partnerships.
  • Growing revenue and ethical fundraising.
  • Understanding of contemporary approaches to governance, leadership and risk management.
  • Strong financial management and oversight.
  • Community engagement.
  • Environmental volunteer management/experience, especially knowledge of, or involvement with, Wildcare volunteer groups.

All Board positions are voluntary. Some reimbursement of expenses may be available on request.

To be elected as a Board member you need to be:

  • a member of Wildcare;
  • not to be disqualified from managing a corporation or from being a responsible entity under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012.

Meeting details: The Wildcare Board usually holds 5 ordinary meetings per year, generally on a weekday. Currently, our 2024 schedule is 3 online meetings and 2 face-to-face meetings – 1 in Hobart and 1 in Launceston. Meetings generally take around 5 hours. Special meetings are held occasionally. Board members are expected to prepare for, attend and actively participate in these meetings. In addition, members may be asked to contribute to the broader work program of the Board and its working groups.

Successful candidates for Board vacancies will be elected by Wildcare members attending the Wildcare Annual General Meeting scheduled for Tuesday 19 March 2024 starting at 7 pm, by Zoom. It is expected that candidates will be available to attend the meeting, and that their expressions of interest and CVs will be available to Wildcare members attending the Annual General Meeting prior to this meeting.
