Are you interested in the plight of Little Penguins and what can be done to protect them?

All are welcome to attend the Little Penguin Forum being hosted by Friends of Low Head Penguin Colony.

When: June 19th from 1:30pm – 4:30pm

Where: George Town Hub – 12 Elizabeth St George Town.

Dr Eric Woehler, Convener of Birdlife Tasmania will give an illustrated talk on Little Penguins, reporting on the results of surveys of the Low Head Penguin Colony that were conducted during 2019 and 2020 and made possible through a Communities Environment Program Grant.

Following the talk, there will be a presentation introducing the recently announced Little Penguin Toolkit that has been developed for use by Tasmanian communities where Little Penguins are present. The forum will conclude with a discussion on options for the George Town and Low Head Communities to protect and monitor Little Penguins in the area.

The forum is open to all members of the public. The Friends of Low Head Penguin Colony are in need of volunteers to assist with Group tasks and are keen to invite younger members of the community, such as secondary school students who may be interested in becoming involved by building nesting boxes, viewing security camera images of penguins to monitor their numbers, and learning about weed control in the area.
