May 2024 Friends of Three Hummock Island (FROTHI) Working Bee, Calling for Expressions of Interest

We’re excited to report another windswept, wild adventure awaits on Three Hummock Island! And it’s coming very soon!

We’re looking for a keen group of volunteers to join us for our annual working bee pulling Sea Spurge on beaches around Three Hummock Island, Thursday May 2 2024 – Monday May 6 2024 (4 nights, weather permitting).

The working bee objectives are to collect as much Sea Spurge and marine rubbish as we can to continue the work to protect Hooded Plovers on the island that has been done by Cradle Coast Authority, Biosecurity Tasmania and Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS).

-Are you free from May 2 – 6 (+/- a day, weather permitting)?

-Are you able to crawl on hands and knees when necessary, pulling invasive weeds in gale-force winds and showers?

-Are you keen to see Three Hummock Island and share a house with 7 other enthusiastic volunteers?

-Are you able to depart from Wynyard or Smithton and travel by bumpy boat or small plane (pending weather) over Bass Strait?

If so, please email us at (subject line: FROTHI WORKING BEE) ASAP and tell us a little bit about your experience and why you’d like to participate.

Due to the limited timeframe before our working bee, we ask that all respondents be certain they are free for the May 2nd-6th dates (with some flexibility) as last minute cancellations will be extremely difficult to fill due to logistics.

We look forward to hearing from you!
