Events for 2016

This last year was very busy with many short notice meetings of the exec and brochure / map committee (every couple of weeks for several months in a row) so it wasn’t feasible to notify all members. Hopefully when the brochure is complete we can get back to some form of normality. We have corresponded with interested parties and property managers, checked track notes and walked sections to confirm the details were correct. The brochure and map are 99% print ready and we expect to place orders for printing soon. We will be expecting invoices for these services soon after and will forward to Carol for payment from our account.

Working bees were held when the weather and conditions were suitable. Last year was a testing time for all concerned. The marker poles on the Black Bluff Range were finally completed 4th February and the poles cover 18 kilometres of the range. We hope to re-pole the Speeler Plains in April 2017 as some were scorched during a recent PWS controlled burn (PWS are assisting).

Track work funding

We have been in contact with the PWS area managers and as a result are working on our costed proposal for track work on some of the more difficult to access parts of the PCT. We are looking to employ Steve Mc Turk when his current contract finishes at Cradle Mountain. Steve is a preferred PWS contractor and carries his own licences and insurance. Our proposal to the WILDCARE Gift Fund will be by a separate email soon.

We hope to meet with Peter Treseder from the Patricia Dukes Foundation later his week.

The future

Looking for ways to have more community involvement with the PCT and increase WILDCARE awareness.
