Do you enjoy getting out in the bush?

Would you like to do something positive to help save a critically endangered species?
If the answer is yes, we would love to have you join us for the OBP survey.

Teams of two or more will visit different areas around Strahan over the weekend of 24-25 February to look for Orange-bellied Parrots. Note that the survey locations on the Sunday will be at either Trial Harbour or Granville Harbour.

Volunteers will need to travel to Strahan on Friday 23 February, to arrive by 7pm to check in with the survey leaders as the surveys will start at about 8am on Saturday morning. The finishing time on the Sunday afternoon will be flexible to fit in with volunteers’ travel needs.

We will run an induction session by Zoom about the surveys on Tuesday 20 February. Zoom is easy to use so don’t worry if you haven’t used it before – we will help you with getting started.

The Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) will provide some unused staff  at Strahan for the Friday to Sunday nights if required or volunteers may choose to make their own arrangements.

A detailed information sheet will be sent to people who register for the event. If you have any questions before you register, please email friends.of.the.obp@gmail.com

Registrations close on Friday 1 March. Note that you need to be logged into your Wildcare account to see the “register” button.  You also be registered as a volunteer with Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania to take part in the survey.

Note that there will be five other OBP surveys during 2024:

These dates are firm and will be added to the Event Calendar up to eight weeks before each is due to start.
