Orange-bellied Parrot Survey

Do you enjoy getting out in the bush?

Would you like to do something positive to help save a critically endangered species?

If the answer is yes, we would love to have you join us for the OBP survey.

Teams of two or more will visit different areas around Arthur River over the weekend of 28-28 September to look for Orange-bellied Parrots. 

Volunteers will need to travel to Arthur River on Friday 27 September, to arrive by 7pm to check in with the survey leaders as the surveys will start at about 8am on Saturday morning. The finishing time on the Sunday afternoon will be flexible to fit in with volunteers’ travel needs.

We will run an induction session by Zoom about the surveys on Tuesday 24 September. Zoom is easy to use so don’t worry if you haven’t used it before – we will help you with getting started.

The Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) will waive fees for volunteers who would like to stay at the Peppermint Campground in Arthur River on the Friday and Saturday nights, or volunteers may choose to make their own arrangements.

Registrations close on Friday 13 September. Note that you need to be logged into your Wildcare account to see the “register” button.  You also be registered as a volunteer with Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania to take part in the survey.  If you have any problems registering, please let Marianne know at friends.of.the.obp@gmail.com

Note that this is the last OBP survey this year and that the first one next year will be sometime in late February or early March 2025.
