Last month we had a really satisfying working bee.  We clambered up the hill above Daffodil Track, where we have tackled hollies before, and consolidated that work by finding and killing some holly, spindle and elder trees that we'd missed.  It was tough work but felt very good to know that we've stopped those weeds in their tracks.  We felt very proud of our group.

The bush there is really beautiful, we were surrounded by birds, and now we know that the bush will remain healthy. It is one of the few wet forest patches in our reserve, with plenty of currant bushes (Coprosma quadrifida) and ferns, grading into a sunny and open dry forest around the ridge corner.  We celebrated with a good chat, good coffee and food at the kiosk afterwards.

On our way down the hill, we took the Eagle Eyrie track, where we found some more weeds, including the Weed of National Significance, bridal creeper.  So this Saturday, we will tackle those. There is an excellent view of the Gorge from the viewing area at the top.

Meet at 10am at the carpark at the far bottom of Gorge Rd (the top of the Maple Steps) in the Cliff Grounds Reserve.  Come ready to walk up the steep hill to the Eagle Eyrie, and please do bring some $ for a cuppa and a bite at the kiosk again afterwards.
