Now that we have had some good rain, it’s time to get moving on planting in and around the new Frog Hollow and Rainforest Retreat areas, down at the estuary. I have around 400 plants on order, funded by our Wildcare Tasmanian Nature Conservation Fund grant and another 100 or so I have grown from seed and cuttings at my place. I am planning to kick off with this working bee.

At this working bee we will:

  • Put in plants in and around the Frog Hollow, Shade Glade and/or Rainforest Retreat – depending on which plants have grown on the best for use in each of these areas.
  • Remove tree guards from those plants that have now grown sufficiently along our nature trail to be able to survive the ravages of the pademelons – what a great problem to have!
  • Weed around those areas where the autumn rains have stimulated lots of weedy growth.

I will also have some results available from the first round of Wildlife Camera records for our project site, and in some surrounding properties, and discuss where we go with this project from here.

What to bring:

  • A sun hat and long sleeves – You might need some protection from UV.
  • Gardening Gloves (we also have a project set you can borrow from)
  • Weeding implements: trowels, forks, etc
  • (we also now have a project set of trowels you can borrow from)
  • Weeding pads for kneeling on – if you need these
  • Water
  • Sturdy boots, sunscreen
  • Something to share for afternoon tea – at 3:00 pm

– or you are welcome to just drop in to say hello during tea time.
