Weeding Canary Broom  on Maria Is. + AGM. Wed..8^th. to Sun. 12th Nov. 2023

Leave Triabunna on Wed.pm. and returning Sun. am ( 3 days activity) – times depending upon ferry bookings.

This project began in 2005, and primary control was completed in 2014. Ongoing monitoring continues, to prevent any further seeding over the approx. 300 sites. We work on Skipping Ridge and in Bernacchis valley.

Weeding involves pulling smaller plants and cutting and pasting larger plants (very few).

We will work in areas of rough terrain and thick bush. Tools and instruction provided.

Average hours worked are 6-7 this includes walking to sites and meal breaks.

Cost of transport to island is covered.

Accommodation  – Most  likely in the SSQ building  With bedrooms, sitting room, bathroom and kitchen with fridge, stove, cooking utensils, crockery etc.

Camping also an option for sleeping.

Please Bring

– Daypack – (to hold lunch, snacks, water, tools, waterproofs, first aid etc.)

– Small mat – useful to sit or kneel on in the bush.

– Personal First Aid kit.

– x 2 masks (in case of dust at some sites)

– Water bottle.

– Torch

– Waterproofs

– Light indoor shoes.

– Boots, gaiters, long trousers, long sleeved shirt.

 ** Please ensure that boots, gaiters etc. are scrubbed clean of mud and free of seeds, as         we want to avoid introducing more weeds, and phytophthora!

– Spare clothes.

– Sun cream, hat, insecticide.

– Sleeping bag + sheet to cover mattress (+ pillow if wanted)

– Mosquito net is useful.

– small bath mat.(for shower use)

– FOOD – Bring food for all meals + drinks and snacks.

*We RECYCLE on the island (collect compost). Please separate your packaging for taking home. This reduces our rubbish for landfill.
