Mount Field National Park Maintenance
We expect that gravel (paid for by Friends of Mt Field with a bequest from former Mt Field National Park ranger Trevor Norris) for hardening parts of the Tarn Shelf Track will have been landed beside the track by the time of the next working bee on Saturday 18 February. If the gravel is there we will work on that track. If the gravel has not been delivered there, we will work elsewhere in Mt Field National Park.
The area is managed by PWS and if you haven't completed the online volunteer form it can be done here (where there is also related information). See below for more details.
If not familiar with the area and the general risks and related issues please read the information pages at this website.
Meet at Granton at 8:00 am – but please advise if you will be attending so you can be contacted if the working bee is cancelled. There is also a weather status page that will be updated prior to the work if it is to be cancelled.
We expect to return by 4:30 pm.
Note that all equipment is supplied at working bees, but each person needs to provide their own lunch and drinks, adequate water, hat, boots or sturdy shoes and wear clothing suitable for work in the sun and amongst bushes together with sunscreen protection. Bring adequate warm clothing, especially if work is at a high altitude.
Volunteers need to be aware of the risks and be familiar with the safety information. See here for details. This includes details on fire danger rating that can cause work to be cancelled.
