Wildcare Friends of the Margaret Mitchell Garden

Where we work

The Margaret Mitchell Garden is a quite new native plant garden located in Richmond Tasmania. The planting highlights Coal Valley Plants and Tasmanian plants generally, and provides a peaceful place to sit and contemplate the natural world. A great place for children to wander and play too. We even have a giant chess set and a Boules pad. We have a small information building on-site which has wildlife information about the nearby Pittwater Reserve, an important RAMSAR listed reserve. (See Wildcare Friends of Pitt Water Orielton Lagoon). The garden is named in honour of Dr Margaret Mitchell, who was a general practitioner in Richmond and the first female councillor elected in the area.

What we do

We hope to continue to care for and develop the garden as an educational and relaxing place for tourists and locals. The Friends of the Margaret Mitchell Garden meet on site on the first Sunday of each month at 10 o’clock for an hour, for a quick weed or tidy up. Please feel very welcome to come along and join us. Our first garden time will be the 6th of November. Rowena  mmgarden@wildcaretas.org.au  Phone 62602340 or 0400185587.
