We are a group that has a central and on-going focus on Fisher Island in the Furneaux group in Bass Strait, however we will include other Tasmanian Islands which are impacted by vertebrate pests (eg cats, rats, mice, rabbits and others). We also undertake the short-tailed shearwater banding project, one of the longest-running migratory bird monitoring programs in the world.

Where we work

We are a group that has a central and on-going focus on Fisher Island in the Furneaux group in Bass Strait, however we will include other Tasmanian Islands which are impacted by vertebrate pests (eg cats, rats, mice, rabbits and others).

What we do

In partnership with key organisations such as Parks and Wildlife Service and Resource Management and Conservation Division (DPIPWE),

  • we intend to continue the short-tailed shearwater banding project, one of the longest-running migratory bird monitoring programs in the world.
  • maintain the hut of Fisher Island
  • undertake and assist with monitoring, control and eradication of vertebrate pests on Fisher and other islands
  • monitor fauna on islands in relation to vertebrate pest impacts and management.
