The Get Outside with Community Program ran a training day for 50 young migrants at Chauncey Vale recently. The students were divided into five different teams and rotated around five different stations throughout the day covering topics as diverse as choosing safe tent sites and setting up tents, how to go the toilet in the bush, learning about taking only photos and leaving only footprints, relay races involving putting on many layers of clothes to stay warm and understanding the risks associated with hypothermia, how to respond to a snake bite and learning about where to camp  and how to read a wether map so that they can be best prepared for adventures into the bush. “The day was a great success with real fun practical learnings being delivered” said Jodie Epper Get Outside Coordinator.
