We need help from Tassie’s Wildcare Volunteers!
Recently, Tas Parks and Wildlife Service at Freycinet have had a spate of Volunteers dropping out of their summer programs due to a range of health, family and personal reasons.
There is an urgent placement available on the Schouten Island program – 12 Feb to 26 Feb – (must be two people)And a gaps in the Freycinet Peninsula Volunteer Track Warden program based at Cooks Beach in Freycinet National Park for three separate placements.
The placement dates are –
PWS are inviting Wildcare Volunteers to “camp sit” the base camp at Cooks Beach for the duration of one of these placements. That means generally taking care of the site whilst being based at the Cooks Beach Base Camp.
Under normal circumstances there is a broader range of duties for this Volunteer role, these can be negotiated according to skills and qualifications.
In these circumstances they are simply looking for preferably a pair of people, to be based at Cooks Beach to keep a check on all the volunteer gear on site and do a daily check in with PWS.
Tent, stretchers, gas fridge, cooker, solar system, cooking and eating utensils, boat transport to and from Cooks Beach are all provided at the base camp. A full list of equipment supplied can be sent to interested applicants.
All Volunteers need to bring with them is their own mobile phone, clothes, food, drink, personal medication and recreational equipment like snorkel and mask for example.
If you can help or need to find out more about the placements please contact Fiona Everts on 0457 758 232 or by email Fiona.Everts@parks.tas.gov.au.
(Note that Fiona will be out of contact between 11th Feb and 16th Feb due to work commitments).
