Wildcare Members are warmly invited to the 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The AGM will be held online via Google Meet video conferencing, and will be recorded.

2025 was a year of challenges, consolidation and strong community-driven conservation impact. Wildcare Chair Ms Donna Burton will report on Wildcare’s activities and finances for 2025, and members will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Attending members will also be asked to:

- confirm the minutes of the 2025 Annual General Meeting
- receive the annual financial statements
- receive the Chair’s and auditor’s reports
- vote on nominees and appoint two new Wildcare Board members
- appoint an auditor for 2027

Feature presentation - Partnering to protect Tasmania's critically-endangered, endemic live-bearing sea star

Stay on after the formal AGM proceedings for an informative in-conversation segment featuring Gary Hulme, President of Wildcare Lumeah Point, and Elizabeth Castle, fieldwork leader from the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Science, led by Wildcare CEO Phillip Laroche.

Wildcare Lumeah Point is working with the IMAS researchers to improve habitat for the live-bearing sea star by removing invasive Pacific oysters and New Zealand porcelain crabs. In 2025, thanks to the dedicated efforts of volunteers, the team removed 280 kg of oysters and 3,000 porcelain crabs from Lumeah Point.

Gary and Elizabeth will share the story of the endangered live-bearing sea star - a small, orange, pentagon-shaped species native to south-east Tasmania that grows to about the size of a thumbnail - and the community efforts that are helping give this little Tasmanian battler a fighting chance.

Its populations have declined dramatically over the past 50 years, and the species is now threatened with extinction. Habitat degradation is believed to be a leading cause of this decline, and the sea star is now known from just 10 sites, including a small population at Lumeah Point.
