Did you know that April is Citizen Science Month?

Jessie Oliver, Wildcare's recently appointed Community Engagement Manager, has been getting to know our Wildcare groups and their conservation work for the last few weeks. She reflects,

What a delight to already learn, in my short time with Wildcare Tasmania, that several groups are conducting systematic environmental surveys, sometimes using tools like iNaturalist and eBird to collect, log, and analyse nature observations! Collectively, our nature observations can reveal important environmental changes, commonly reflected through species invasions, declines, shifts, or recoveries. Citizen Science Month is a great time to raise awareness about your citizen science projects by adding them to Australia's national project finder called SciStarter Australia, or find an existing project to get involved in with your groups or more broadly.

Citizen Science Month, is a global initiative encouraging public involvement in scientific research. Jessie manages SciStarter Australia citizen science project finder and steers the Australian contribution to Citizen Science Month. Under Jessie's guidance, Citizen Science Month is gaining momentum locally—with an ambitious national goal of 100,000 recorded “acts of science.”

The Citizen Science Show team has created an incredible collection of over 100 podcasts highlighting the diverse ways people across Australia, from all walks of life are uncovering incredible insights through the citizen science community (and some broader approaches).
