Wednesday the 15th May marked the beginning of the ‘Winter working bees’ for the Friends of Lillico penguin volunteers. After a successful season of guiding and welcoming hundreds of tourists to the platform, the group now works to ensure the vegetation and the viewing platform will be ready for the next season.
Volunteers were busy pruning around burrows and the platform, weeding and collecting litter. The upcoming working bees will involve planting, weeding, pruning and replacing some of the penguin burrows. Volunteers also check the ‘runways’ from the beach up to the burrows and ensure vegetation isn’t crowding them out.
