Vegetation Classification Workshop 23 June 2018
Overview: This workshop will provide an overview of the classification of vegetation communities in Tasmania. Details of the vegetation community are an important component when describing and understanding threatened flora habitat and inclusion of the relevant TASVEG vegetation community is a valuable addition when submitting threatened flora data to the Natural Values Atlas. At the end of this workshop, participants will understand how vegetation is classified in Tasmania, what are the key reference documents for vegetation classification and have a greater confidence to classify vegetation communities. The morning will be spent indoors learning the theory of vegetation classification and the afternoon will provide the opportunity to visit some sites around Hobart to classify vegetation communities in the field. Funding from the three NRM regions is providing this opportunity for TPT members to develop their knowledge and skills and the workshop is being presented by Mark Wapstra from ECOtas.
Prerequisite: Participants need to have a basic knowledge of eucalypt identification (participation in the TPT Eucalypt Identification workshop is recommended for those without this prior knowledge) and a basic botanical knowledge of common Tasmanian plant species.
