This group is building a traditional whaleboat to use as part of an education program at Port Arthur. It focuses on the use of traditional boat building skills and increasing knowledge of the whaling history of the area.

What do we do?

We aim to foster and protect Tasmania’s rich cultural heritage by imparting traditional trade skills to the community and the public, in relation to whaleboat building.

Where do we operate?

We will be building a whale boat, and educating visitors and school children, at Port Arthur Historic Site, an ideal location to demonstrate and explain traditional boat building skills. We will work cooperatively with others, including Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority, Heritage Tasmania and like-minded not-for-profit organisations.
